Fun Facts:

  • Maria’s first language was Spanish, learning English in the 1st grade and starting French lessons in 3rd grade.
  • She’s also dabbled in Chinese, German, Italian and Portuguese. In Hogwarts houses, she’s a Ravenclaw through and through.
  • Maria’s last name is the Spanish word for Pyrite, commonly known as fool’s gold. The only reason Pyrite is not as valuable as gold is because it is not as malleable so she often describes her last name to be “like gold, but stronger.”

About Maria Pirita's Team Leads Summit Session - Smarter, Safer AI: Practical Tools for Veterinary Teams

AI presents exciting opportunities to improve workflow, communication, and efficiency in veterinary practices but without clear guidelines, it also creates serious risks to client confidentiality, patient care, and clinic reputation. In this workshop with Maria Pirita, veterinary team leads will learn to navigate AI safely and effectively. Topics include identifying high-risk behaviors, evaluating reputable AI platforms, developing responsible prompt-writing habits, and fostering a healthy AI mindset within the team. This program is highly interactive and includes case discussions, hands-on activities, and practical take-home resources.

  • Identify three major risks of careless AI use in veterinary settings.
  • Apply a vetting checklist to evaluate AI platforms for clinic use.
  • Write responsible AI prompts that protect client confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate how to implement safe AI practices with the veterinary team.
